A Few Facts About Skin Skin is an amazing
organ, but is often poorly neglected. It does far more than
cover our bones to make us look presentable!! It has a number
of functions, but most importantly it is one of the five
major organs of elimination.
To be healthy skin needs to be able to breathe and release
toxins (remember the poor girl whose whole body was painted
in the film "Goldfinger" and what happened to
her!!).
Many skincare products on the market today contain ingredients
that actually smother the skin and would be more at home
in a garage than in a cosmetic. Whatever we put on our skin
is absorbed straight into the body, so we need to make sure
that what we use every day is safe, thus avoiding a build-up
of toxins.
One of the reasons why skin is having such a hard time
these days is because of the lack of natural oils in our
diet. Without these our skin can become thin, dry and itchy
and more liable to allergy. The fad of the low-fat diet
was probably one of the worst contributors to this and did
our skin no favours. Not that we are advocating hydrogenated
fats from animals and refined cooking oils, but people have
poured the baby out with the bathwater and have failed to
realise there are "good" fats that are not only
essential to the body but are absolutely necessary to have
a healthy skin - but more on this later!
